If you’ve completed a Professional Certificate - congratulations! It takes time, effort and perseverence to reach the finish line and not everyone can do it.

If you have completed one, I’d love to know how you managed your time and how you kept yourself motivated until the end. I’m guessing your stories will be helpful for others who are currently working through a Professional Certificate and maybe finding it challenging.

Hello all,
I finished the 1st course in 3 days since I’m not working yet. It was fun since I have been in Application support, which is proprietary software on an appliance and one type of industry (content Filtering). Many terms or acronyms used in the course have passed through my readying of technical documents.
I have had customers scream at me many times, and I used one technique in the course, which was to be silent and collect your thoughts on what an empathetic response and not a sympathy tone so bad that they want a supervisor! That is the hardest thing.
The Labs were so easy since I set up a virtual machine at home on my desktop and installed Linux and Windows images on them. Using putty is fun, especially when you're on a machine in your other room and can log in to your Linux box remotely. You can also install apps on your phone to log in to your machine if the VN is up and running,
Microsoft allows you to download and test Active Directory on your desktop free for 90 days. That was fun setting up, adding users, adding services, great experience. I hope they have a course on Exchange Mail and Office 365 because many companies require it.
So why am I here? Sad but true, my career has been on supporting Content Filtering and not fixing computers or supporting IT data centers. So my knowledge is limited with no certs and a GED. The interviews with 2 techs drilling my on scenarios were grueling and had 7 interviews for one company! I knew my stuff for the platform I was going to support, and 60k was a good starting pay in California. I nailed the job and lasted one year till they moved to Austin, Tx. Forcepoint now is the new name.
So a good memory is exceptional, but the hands-on experience can teach you way more than reading and quizzes. Fell free to ask me any questions or share your experience.

God Bless your future

I finished the Google IT Support program a couple of weeks ahead of schedule. I work 6 days/50 hours a week, and I’m taking online classes at the local community college in pursuit of a degree in Computer Science. Consistently setting aside, and adhering to, scheduled time for classwork is very important. The way each weekly lesson was broken down into smaller sub sections made it easy to complete. My preferred method was to set aside a 2-3 undisturbed hours and complete each weekly lesson all at once.

Hi! I just finished my TESOL Certification Part 1! :) And I'm ecstatic to begin the part 2 of this certification. It was tough, though, however, because of perseverance and hard work, I was able to accomplish it prior to the deadline.

Happy learning, teachers!

Hi @Anthony V. Bellen! How much time did it take to finish the Part 1 of TESOL Certification, I mean how many days, weeks or months?

Happy learning to your second part! 🙂

The certificate won’t necessary get you a job, but more a combination of education, and other skills will you a job. Also be mindful that when applying for IT jobs, they might see something else besides the certifications that causes the employer to interview you and possibly hire you.    Also remember too, an attitude and perception of a strong and eager willingness to learn is highly recognized.

Good luck to you.

Hi everyone,

I am Nieves, from Spain, and I am currently enrolled in the IT Support Professional Certificate by Google. I hope to do my best to get a better grasp of new technologies and be able to fix mine and others’ problems related to technology.

I highly recommend this professional certificate. Contents are easily understood because teachers get to the point and are updated.

I would like to know people interested in this field in order to share experiences and knowledge.

Best wishes.

Hi. I finished the certification in 1 month mainly because I don’t have a job right now I finished it on February 1st. I am an electronics engineer by profession and I quit my previous job due to personal reasons. My motivation is, I always think of having these data science skills would be great and will make me employed in a couple of months or so. Right now, still looking for an early professional career in data science. I am also grateful to coursera community for giving a complimentary 1 year subscription in Big Interviews to prepare myself for a job hunting. So, I can say that if you are really motivated to move forward, you can actually focus properly.

Well

I just finished the professional certification IBM Data Science

I used to be Software and Database Consultant for 16 years

I am working Now as Cashier in LA area

I defined My scope as start to study in coursera.org to warm up and keep my energy up just in case I could find a job in IT

I finished my certification within almost 30 days

It was easy for me from Technical point of view,  and I studied 5 hours after 6 hours of working every day, it was hard to only work 6 hours because its California and its very expensive

my strategy was listen to the videos while I was work and watch them again in my home after my work and do a lot search and supporting materials in the internet

I did it I got my certification and it was great to know something in the process

Even though I do have some comments about grading process

But generally speaking, it is worth it and meet my Scope

Hi @Iamrichie. Unfortunately any Coursera promotions can’t be used after their expiration date. I’m not sure which promotion you’re referring to, but if it was an email where IBM offered a free month on Coursera if you joined their IBM Data Science Community, then you could try contacting the IBM community support team for help: support@communitysite.ibm.com

Hi,

I’m JR I’ve mostly taken Humanities and I’m by no means smart or bragging in any way. I have completely over a dozen Certificate and Diploma courses. From Legal studies, Journalism, Language, Caretaking, ADR, Epidemiology, English, ADR, Business, Working with Students with Special Educational Needs, Contract Law, Legal Studies-Laws & Judicial System , Journalism & Print Media, Journalism, Print Media & Broadcasting,History-The Rise of Fascism, Media Studies-Print and Publishing Media. That’s not all but but I still consider myself dumb for not accomplishing what so many of you have. My trick is to push your pride aside, do it like your life depends on it, and it’s a matter of how important you think it is to you. Well gotta go!bye.

I just finished the IBM Data Science certificate yesterday. Although I feel like the program could have been designed slightly better (a uniform approach throughout all 9 courses perhaps), I did find it challenging enough to motivate me to work hard and learn something new. In fact, I was so motivated by the challenge of learning something new that I pretty much spent my entire free time working on it and since I was having fun, I enjoyed the whole process. I just started the next challenge today and signed up for the IBM Applied AI. I do hope it goes as well as the first one!
