Does paying $49/month towards Google Specialization applies to all Google Specialization

Badge +1

Hi There,

I am currently paying $49/month towards Google Specialization - Architecting with Google Compute Engine Specialization. After I complete it, should I cancel it and enroll in another Google Specialization or am I entitled to all the Google Specializations as long as I continue to pay $49/month.

The Coursera web site does not indicate one way or another.

Can someone from Coursera help?

Thanks!

Regards,

Mahesh

Maryam,

Thanks for your response.

I did not enroll through a special program. Google is billing me on a monthly basis.

If I enroll in Coursera and $399 for the year, can I enroll in any specialization? Kindly respond to both the concerns. Thanks.

Regards,

Mahesh

@Mahesh_KGanesan, you’re welcome!

  1. This is the Specialization subscription model if you enrolled through Coursera. The Help Article I provided in my above reply explains how it works.

  2. Yes, Coursera Plus enables you to take as many courses as you want. However, some courses/Specializations are excluded. This Help Article lists them: Courses & content available on Coursera Plus

  3. Please note that you need to cancel your Specialization subscription(s) in case you want to use Coursera Plus because it’ll not be stopped automatically if you don’t cancel it. So I strongly recommend contacting the support team if you’re still unsure about your situation. The support agents are able to check your payments. Please use the “here” link on this page to reach them.

Hi there,

When I tried to enroll in another Google Specialization, I am being prompted for the subscription again. When I enrolled, it was specifically stated in Google Specialization web page, that I can enroll in any Google Specialization as long as I continue to pay $49/month.

Can someone in Coursera orGoogle help clarity?

I would appreciate immediate response. Thanks.

Regards,

Mahesh

I would appreciate if someone from Coursera or Google respond to this post.

The monthly fee should give you access to the resources for all Coursera specializations which aren’t part of any degree or master-track programs.  I have only done one at a time, but I have completed 2 Google IT specializations this way.

Hi Matt,

Thanks for your response.

I am paying Monthly subscription to Google and not to Coursera. Are you paying to Coursera? Thanks.

@Mahesh_KGanesan, when you start a Specialization subscription, you’ll have access to all courses in that particular Specialization. If you want to take a new Specialization, you’ll need to start a new subscription. This is how Coursera subscriptions work, as explained here: Coursera subscriptions

I am paying Monthly subscription to Google and not to Coursera. Are you paying to Coursera? Thanks.

If you’ve enrolled through the Enroll button on Coursera’s Specialization page, then it’s considered a Coursera subscription. How are you paying to Google? Are you participating in a special learning program offered by a company?

I enrolled directly through Coursera.  Maybe look at Maryam’s comment for more information.

Maryam,

I just want to clarify that I am making monthly payments to Coursera and NOT to Google. I am sorry for the confusion caused.

I am not clear on the following. Kindly clarify and not point me to subscription page. It is quite vague on certain aspects.

  1. I finished Google Compute Specialization. My monthly payment is due on Aug 11th.
    1. Will I get charged?
    2. Will my subscription automatically get canceled?
    3. Do I need to cancel now, so that I can move on to next specialization?
  2. Would you recommend Coursera Plus?
    1. Do I have to make monthly payment or one payment for the year?

Please clarify each and every one of my question.  I appreciate your time and effort in this matter.

Thanks for your help.

Sincerely,

Mahesh Ganesan

Maryam,

One would assume that once the specialization is completed, Coursera app should automatically cancel the subscription. This is assuming that the subscription is for a particular specialization. If Coursera app does not automatically cancel or at least provide notification, that is not right.

Since I did not get timely and specific response from you, I will go ahead and cancel my subscription. Kindly make it explicit and clear in your web site.

Kindly ensure that I am not getting charged on Aug 11th.

@Mahesh_KGanesan, no worries. I realized it was very unlikely to be a Google payment. That’s why I shared Coursera’s Help Articles.

Please note that this is a community for Coursera learners, and we are your fellow community members, guiding learners in the right direction on a voluntary basis. I cannot check your account and payments. That’s why I recommended contacting Coursera’s support team. I provided the link to their contact form, too, to help you get there smoothly. I believe my replies have been timely, specific, and helpful. :)

If you have any feedback or suggestions regarding Coursera’s Help Articles and platform, feel free to post it in the Ideas & Suggestions for Coursera forums.

Under normal circumstances, your subscription should be canceled when you earn your Specialization Certificate. But, I have seen some cases where this has not happened due to technical issues. Also, I mentioned that your existing subscription(s) in your unfinished courses would not stop automatically If you start Coursera Plus. I did not talk about your finished courses and canceled subscriptions.

Regarding Coursera Plus, if you are planning to take multiple courses, yes, I’d recommend it. But you need to make sure the courses you have in mind are included in the program, as I explained. Otherwise, it will not meet your needs.
