I’m going to start by introducing myself!

My name is Laura, and I’m a community manager here. I love connecting with so may passionate learners around the world. It brings me great joy.

While I currently live and work in the San Francisco Bay Area, where Coursera headquarters is located, I consider myself a global citizen. I grew up in Luxembourg and have lived & worked in France, South Africa, and Thailand. I feel most at home when I am not at home, but out exploring the world!

I’m passionate about personal development, and the tool that has helped me the most is the Enneagram.

I also enjoy studying/practicing positive neuroplasticity and yoga (especially yin yoga and yoga nidra – the calming stuff!). Rick Hanson, Tara Brach, and Kristin Neff are some of my favorite teachers.

I look forward to learning more about you!

Hello, I am John.  I have retired into a life of volunteering and learning in SF Bay Area.

Volunteering is a great way to be community engaged, whether locally or globally.  Being a mentor on Coursera is one of several platforms to do so globally.  I have been a mentor since 2017.  Being a mentor help others to explore specific topic while I get to update the advances made in the field related to Gut Microbiome.

I am a curious person and enjoy learning.  When I change jobs, I look for new frontiers that I have not been to before.  There are certainly a lot of job/skill related learning, on top of that I learn about the industry and the best practices, say in project management, to help the organization to do well.   Personal development is a very important element as I continue to explore what life is all about.   As it turns out, the answer is in a Coursera course - A Life of Fulfillment and Happiness.

At the present time, while we are mandated to be shelter-in-place, I am as happy as can be, taking courses and helping others where and when needed with facts, data, science and widely available resources to help with their mental well being.

Be safe, healthy and happy!

Hi guys, my name is Karla Padilla. I was born in Los Ángeles and currently reside in Richmond CA. I am Mexican-american. I am currently enrolled at Berkeley City College and have one more semester until transfer. I plan on applying to UC Davis as a Biology major for animal science. I wish to become a veterinary technician one day. I recently received an email from Senator Skinner with a notification in regards to The Science of Well-being course currently being offered for free by Yale University, and decided to register. So far I have been enjoying the course and look forward to getting a better insight into the psychology behind happiness and personal development. I want to be able to broaden my perspective in how the mind works in order to implement my findings into the behavior I observe in my dogs. I also want to adapt better habits and grow as a person. I look forward to getting to know this community and learn from one another!

Hello everyone,

I'm Mesbah from Bangladesh. I've been working in financial sector since 2011.

So far I've enrolled in the following courses:

1. Learning how to learn

2. Mindshift

3. De-mystifying mindfulness

4. Code yourself

5. Sit less, get active

6. Learning guitar for beginner

7. Personal & family finance

I belive, personal development is a prerequisite for being relevant in this world of change. That's why I try to engage myself in different arena.

I love traveling, fiction, music, movies.

Once I tried to learn French language, but gave up due to my academic pressure. Recently, I have started to learn French again on Duolingo.

Coursera is offering many more thing to learn. I wish I could learn a lot of things from this platform.

I don't dare to promise helping others to learn anything right now, because I don't feel competent enough to do so. But I would love to help other in any form. So, if I feel that I may help someone in any case from my experience, I would love to do so for sure.

Happy learning...

Regards,

Mesbah from Bangladesh.

I’m Cierra and I’m from Louisiana of the Unites States. I’m a stay at home mom and wife and using this opportunity of staying home during this pandemic to take some online courses and to add some skills under my belt of success. I am a licensed Cosmetologist and I love helping people in any way that I can. I love crafting, it is one of my favorite hobbies. I love being creative and making/doing new things. I love challenges as well. I’m starting the Creative Problem Solving course with Coursera to learn how to explore new things and challenges. I want to step outside of my comfort zone and explore creativity and take it to a new level and I think this course will help me a lot. I hope everyone is staying safe and using their time wisely. Good luck to everyone as well.

Aloha, my name is Mika from the Island of Hawai’i. I have a B.A. in Communication from the University of Hawaii at Hilo, and a M.S. in Educational Leadership & Policy focusing on postsecondary, adult, and continuing education from Portland State University. I’m currently a FT caregiver to my dad with advanced dementia, so I’m unable to work outside of the home at this time, which is why I am taking personal development classes through Coursera. I am currently taking:

  • A Life of Happiness and Fulfillment
  • Mindshift

I’ve always been interested in Self-help books and want to help others become a better version of themselves.  As a native Hawaiian, I strive to learn more about my culture, to help reindiginize our education system here in Hawai’i, the U.S., and the world.  I enjoy perpetuating Hawaiian culture through music, language, and sharing as much knowledge I can with everyone I come in contact with. I have a blog that I’ve neglected for so long, but hope to properly launch it in the near future, because I know that ALOHA can and will change the world for the better. This is what I can offer.  I am looking for continued support as I sometimes feel isolated here in Hawai’i, which affects my mental health.

On my free time, I enjoy singing and playing my ukulele, writing poetry, and ocean therapy. I am also interested in mindfulness techniques like meditation (deep Ha breathing) and prayer.

Mahalo for taking the time to read this.

Aloha,

Mika

Hello! I’m Becky, I’m from North Carolina, but I now live in Utah. I’m interested in personal development so I can be a better person. The Science of Happiness is the first course I’ve taken on Coursera. I’m interested in Tai Chi, yoga, science fiction, and Taoist philosophy. I used to be a math major, so if you’ve got questions about early college math, I can rack my brain and try to be of some help!
