Hi. It has been a wonderful discovery for me. I came here basically to learn Mandarin, then I found the opportunity to approach so many new subjects that I realized I need to reach a higher level of abstraction and Design thinking or Systems design or Data visualization are now my references.

PS Thanks for the offering

Hi @Maryam and everyone else!

First of all…

Happy Birthday to Coursera!!

Coursera is such a wonderful platform and a life-changing place for me!

I had started in June 2020 through my college under a learning program made specially for the pandemic times.

At that time, I simply had NO idea what Coursera was, and what all I could do with it. I only saw that there are many reputed institutions offering world-class courses on SO many subjects. I was thrilled. And since I had joined under a learning program, I got to take as many courses I wanted for FREE till 30th September 2020.

My first course was Materials Science: 10 Things Every Engineer Should Know by UC Davis. I gingerly finished my last quiz, and to my surprise, I got a certificate! With UC Davis written on top! It was such a joyous moment for me.

After that, I took courses after courses, and when I ran out of courses in my own field, I started taking courses from other fields. This enhanced my knowledge in different areas that I could never have imagined learning otherwise.

So, I took this opportunity and completed over 60 Courses, Specializations and Guided Projects. And then, in January 2021, I was offered to make my own Guided Project! I could not hold my excitement! I made one named Problem Solving Using Microsoft Excel. You may try it out if you want :relaxed:. And Coursera is always trying to improve and make our experience better.

Because of this Guided Project initiative, I joined this amazing Community in February 2021, and now, I’m here! I like helping others and engaging in different discussions.

Here, I would like to mention @Laura, our Community Manager. She is such a nice and caring person. Whenever I face any problem, she helps me out.

I cannot say enough about Coursera. Because of all this, joining Coursera was life-changing for me.

A big thank you to the instructors, mentors, community managers, moderators, learners and all the members here. It would not have been possible without you all.

Wishing all the success for Coursera. May it grow into an even bigger organization and spread knowledge!

Thank you for providing free course again. I will surely try it! :relaxed:

Best wishes.

Happy Birthday, Coursera!  And many more to come following its successful IPO last week!

My journey with it started with Giving 2.0 to help me sort out my wandering volunteering journey.  I am as happy as can be continuing with my learning journey, taking courses and participating in this community to gain a better understanding of people, culture, the world as it evolves and my own development.

To count my blessings, one course that I took several years ago, led to joining a WhatsApp group during this pandemic. This community has so many happy people around the world sharing their joys and wisdom, as well as compassionate support when a few runs into life’s challenges in this difficult time.

Another course that I took a few years ago led me to understand the wonder of our gut microbiome and gut brain axis!  With that fundamental, as an opportunity arose to participate in a BrainHealth project being done by UT, Dallas, I readily jump into it and learn to build habits to maintain a healthy brain, manage stress and decelerate the effect from aging.

I must curb myself from my excitement to share the beauty of Coursera, the professional and the engaged participants behind it.  The stories shared here is aspiring!

@Shmimy, happy birthday to you and all April-born members!

This is a lovely post, @Maryam, thanks for initiating this conversation.

Like @Shmimy, Coursera, and Andrew Ng (co-founder of Coursera), my birthday is in April, too! :dizzy:

While I’ve always thought of myself as a lifelong learner, I actually began learning with Coursera when I joined Coursera as your community manager in 2018.

After taking Learning How to Learn, I realized that while I like encountering new concepts and subjects, I’m not very good at retaining that information. That said, I probably do invest time in integrating knowledge that I really want/need to retain.

What has been most meaningful to me during my 2.5 years with Coursera is getting to hear all of YOUR stories. What a joy it is to learn from, connect with, and be inspired by our incredible Coursera learner community. I save encouraging quotes from this community so I can read them when I’m having a difficult day!

@Archisha Bhar For certain persons, Coursera is the door to hell. It is never a great issue to me, to do lessons and reply 100% questions right off.

The problem is, that I never trust myself doing the right thing just soon after I studied it. This does not necessarily mean I have acquired it in a long time.

When I read people of just having completed Certificates, I always feel uncomfortable as I’m so curious and messy that my only living choice is multitasking.

Learning is also a continuous discovery of how to learn.

Happy Birthday to Coursera!:birthday:

Hello everyone and @Maryam

I came across this amazing platform when I was struggling with my coursework on Bachelor of Computer Applications and was looking around for gaining clarity and insight about the same on the internet.

The first course was actually a part of the Google IT Support Specialization .

Hence, my interest grew further and I found my reliable source of knowledge through Coursera !

I really appreciate the vision and mission of the platform and is glad to be a part of it.

Thank you for keeping my spirits high and being with all of us during such a transcendental time , for showing people worldwide that everything can be better if the light of education reaches every corner and can help make things right.

Happy Learning .

Stay safe.

Regards,

Saheli
