This Thursday, many people will celebrate the holiday of Thanksgiving.

What are you thankful for? It could be something big or small, a person or an experience or maybe an unexpected gift.

The human brain has a negativity bias. But reflecting on the good things in our lives – and practicing gratitude – can help re-train our brains to more quickly recognize and fully appreciate the good stuff!

It is also a good feeling when we can be happy for other people. 🙂

Share what you are thankful for here!

Note: This is a public community so use your best judgment when sharing (e.g., nothing too personal). See How to get started in the Coursera Community for more information.

I am thankful for the existence of this community, a place where people from all over the world, with diverse interests, lifestyles, cultures and strengths can come together to share thoughts. It is an opportunity like no other, to be able to connect to people.. I am thankful for the technology that has made this possible as well as the willingness of everyone here to share. Thank you.
I have always been thankful for my health. I believe it's something that should not be taken for granted. Yesterday, a careless driver all of a sudden turned left. Our cars were about to bump into each other. I hit the brake pedal swiftly, and thank heavens the car stopped unbelievably just a few millimeters away from her car. Today, I am so thankful that both of us were saved from experiencing a potentially dangerous accident.
As you may or may not know, here in America the day after Thanksgiving, known as Black Friday, is the single largest shopping day in the US. Stores open at four or five am in the morning, sometimes even at midnight and are packed with shoppers looking for a good deal on their purchases.
Ever since the Thanksgiving of 1990, when I was working at a toy store in Tacoma, WA, and had the dubious pleasure of working an 18 hour day on that Black Friday, I have thankful that I no longer work retail and do not have to face a stampede of customers at some unlikely hour of the morning Friday. I can stay in bed, sleep late, have a relaxing morning and not have to be out in the throngs of shoppers, neither as an unfortunate employee nor as a participant in the shopping.
It may not sound like a big thing to be thankful for, but believe me I am grateful.

Thank you @Laura for starting this wonderful thread for one of my favorite times of the year. Although I am in Europe and we don’t officially celebrate this particular day, many people around me try to adapt the tradition of our American friends to remember the good things in our lives. Yes, it is so true that unfortunately people tend to report negative things in life more than the positive ones as it says in the link you provided us. Hence, I am so grateful for this day to begin with that we can all hopefully find a way to reverse the negative bias, at least, for this day! ;)

I've also came across this wonderful article from Harvard: that according to official scientific research, cultivating a grateful attitude can lead to a happier life, thereby to potentially a healthier and longer life due to the happiness hormones, which might interest you too.

Echoing what @Judith wrote, among the things I am most thankful is also this community, being able to communicate with amazing diverse people across the World exchanging ideas, enriching our lives for the better. I am very thankful for everyone who worked so hard, bringing this platform, which was envisioned some years ago, into reality this year. Kudos to all of you.

@Maryam , I am so glad you and the other driver are OK. Wishing you continuation of your good health and good fortune.

@Halla , I am so happy for you that you can sleep in longer tomorrow! :)

I’ve come across this cute ecard for this season, which I hope you all like too:

Wishing you all a very Happy Thanksgiving no matter what you may be going through. May your feasts and gravy be most delicious this year and your gatherings be most joyful...
Thank you for your good wishes, @Denise. :)
Happy Thanksgiving Day to everyone who celebrates it. 🎊
