Hello,

My name is Ron from the United States and I am 33 years old. I have a Bachelor's in Computer Science and a Master's in Information Technology. I have been living in China for the past 5 years as an ESL Teacher with then girlfriend, now wife. We are returning to the States next month.

I have been taking courses on Coursera so that I can prepare myself and do a change as to what I want to do for a career. I thought I that I wanted to be a programmer but I found that I enjoy the idea of working with hardware and troubleshooting user's problems. That was why I took Google's IT Support specialization. Thought that it was the perfect opportunity and hopefully open some doors.

As for my hobbies, I like to read and listen to audio books. Enjoy watching a cheesy horror movie and straight-to-DVD Sci-Fi movie. Can also find me on Steam and Xbox playing the latest games.

Anyways, glad to meet all of you. Wish you all well on your studies.

Ron

Hey Ron. Nice to meet you. I was wondering , how was teaching English in China like? What are the minimum requirements to teach over there? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Hope to hear from you. BTW, I'm Martin from Texas......

Hi! My name is Linda and I live in Albany, NY. I am currently enrolled in the Age of the Great Cathedrals course (free version). I got interested in learning about Gothic architecture after seeing the fire at Notre Dame. I've always loved art, old buildings and the like. I also used to do some amateur freelance photography, so I guess it is a natural progression of sorts.

I am going to be 52 in a couple of months. I'm a housewife, mom to 3 grown children and 4 grandchildren. I used to work as a medical assistant but can no longer work due to my anxiety.

Online courses work for me because I can move at my own pace and take a break from classes as needed. I'd never be able to juggle "regular" college classes because of my anxiety. This way, I can learn new things but not become overwhelmed.

I look forward to continued learning and growing! 😊💖

Hi Linda. I came across your paragraph intro and I must say, I totally understand you. I'm referring to the anxiety stuff. I too suffer from anxiety at times but also major depression. So, continue in your journey called "life". Be encouraged and believe that even with barriers, you can overcome and study and pursue your dreams. Good luck, stay in touch...

Btw, I'm Martin.....byee

Hello to everyone,

I am an Gen Z learner from Uzbekistan and I work for as an economic analyst for a local stock exchange. I am on Coursera already for several years, recently began beta-testing new courses. There are 30+ finished courses behind me, including one specialisation (IBM Data Science Professional Certificate), one more I am about to complete (Investment Management) and four!!! more I am working on to complete by the end of this year (Business and Financial Modeling, Machine Learning and Reinforcement Learning in Finance, Blockchain, IBM Artificial Intelligence Professional Certificate). As you can see, first, I am a very fast and passionate learner, second, my professional interests lie on the edge of finance and technology, my personal interests though extend to anything interesting, from Ancient Egypt to classical music and cheeses...

Nice getting to know you all!

Hi, everyone

I am new to the forum, and fairly new to Coursera, but so far I've had a great experience here. I joined Coursera a few months ago after hearing on the radio about the Google IT Support Professional program. I have previously worked in a Safety & Compliance position for five years, but decided to pursue a career in IT about a year ago. It's an incredibly challenging and fast-changing field, and I am excited at all the learning opportunities.

I currently live in North Canton, OH and I work in IT as a project analyst. I am looking at relocating on the west coast in the near future. I have not settled on a specific path with IT yet, as this field is so vast and I believe as I learn more I will understand what is the best fit for me. I do enjoy working on IT projects and implementations, but also testing software, and I am interested in cyber-security as well. So many directions, and everything is interesting. That is why the Google IT courses was so helpful for me, providing an overall view of the field and its trends. If you have any suggestions for promising IT paths, I will gladly take them. I am currently studying more about system administration and cyber-security, and learning SQL. I am very passionate about travelling and languages, and meeting people from different cultures. Movies are very high on my list of hobbies, and I rarely miss anything from Marvel. Doctor Who and Harry Potter are also on my "guilty" list.

I look forward to learning more about other Coursera members!

Hello all,

I'm Adithya from Chennai, India. I'm currently about to pursue my MS in IIT Madras in the field of Human Resource and Organizational behavior. I had completed my undergraduate studies from the same institute in Chemical engineering 2 years ago, but went on to work in teaching field for an year as my passion was mainly in understanding human psychology and teaching. I had joined Coursera only a month ago, mainly in order to learn more about the musicians of 1960s-70s and also the different philosophies which great personalities had propounded through the ages. I fell in love with the music of The Beatles, CCR, The Kinks, The Byrds, The Rolling Stones, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan etc. about 8 years ago. I was very much fascinated by their artistic portrayals about the lives and struggles of different classes and types of people (poverty stricken, army men, philosophers, poets, lovers, politicians, aristocrats etc. ) set to terrific melodies. From them, I had also developed a lot of interest in the works of writers like Orwell, Elliot, Huxley etc. and poets like Keats, Shelley, Wordsworth etc. and also different philosophies like Vaishnavism, Buddhism, Rationalism, Skepticism, Secularism etc. I am very glad to find a platform like Coursera where I can learn about all of these topics in great detail which are otherwise not much found in the Indian universities here!

I'm glad to meet all of you and wish you all a very good learning experience in Coursera.

Adithya

Well, I stumbled into "Sticky" and able to reply (vs Global Translator with "Sticky" and reply disabled) As a beta tester, I will let Claire decide what needs to be done.

Anyway, I'll follow Claire suggestion to introduce myself and tell you about John who grew up in HongKong and now volunteering in San Francisco. As of this week, I am studying Buddhism and Modern Psychology. A very good course and the current session is on Deeds without Doers, and Thoughts without Thinkers. Fascinating!
Also, I just wound up a Global Human Rights - TeachOut! I got to pose questions such as, with so many rights, what are human responsibilities? When individuals do not fulfill their responsibilities, what rights should be forfeited such that the rights would not be abused.

You can probably tell that learning is my hobby. I do have other hobbies too. My motto is, try anything as long as it doesn't kill me, cause anyone harm or make me addicted. Life is wonderful!
