There are many, probably hundreds, of resources online to help people progress in their career. Some are very specific to certain roles, industries, locations etc. while others could be applicable to anyone. There are so many it can be difficult to find them all and even harder to tell which ones are actually any good.

As a community, let’s try to build up list of the best ones here to help each other out!

Please share any great career support resources you’ve found online, and give a short explanation of who it would be helpful for and why.

Let me start with a few of basic resources:

  • The Muse - great starting point for researching companies and careers. A lot of helpful information and support for job search.
  • Glassdoor - employee review and feedback on employers (companies), also employee-reported salaries for various roles.
  • - resume feedback tool that compares a resume to a job description, so you can know whether you need to make further modifications before applying
  • Facebook groups - there are a lot of great local job search and referral groups out there. This one is an example in San Francisco Bay Area.
  • American Job Centers - find your local job center sponsored by US Department of Labor. Many job centers include career coaching, networking programs, workshops, and other job search services at no cost to user.

More to come. Please share your favorite resources in comments below!

Grammarly is a great tool for ensuring that all of your communications and materials are grammatically correct. Typos and mistakes in resumes and cover letters are one of the more common reasons for candidates being disqualified during the application process.
