Hey guys,

I just finished Google's IT Support Course(all 5 parts) and I want to ask you a question that I didn't find yet.

There is an option to opt-it for CompTIA+ certification, but I didn't find anywhere if you have to pay for this cert?

Thank you a lot and have a great day,

Michal

Hello!

I went digging to try and find what you described on Opting In To CompTIA A+. From what I can tell, directly on that page, “ You can also earn a CompTIA and Google dual credential when you complete the Google certificate and pass the CompTIA A+ certification exams. “ (source: https://www.coursera.org/professional-certificates/google-it-support). I think this means you have to take the exams themselves (available from: https://www.comptia.org/certifications/a). I do not think it is covered by the course for IT Support credentials. I do believe you would need to enroll to take, and pass, the compTIA A+ on your own. I think this is referencing having a “dual” certificate to show but only after the aforementioned steps.

I hope I helped!

Dear Michael,

A++ certification is only offered through Comptia, and the prices vary depending on the bundle you choose. I will admit these certifications can be pricey, but every blue moon they might have a discount.  If you are a student, then your college or university might partner with Comptia, and if you take a course such as operating systems or hardware, then the exam comes out of your tuition. You just have to pick a time, date, and location which to take the test. There is also a separate entity known as PearsonVUE that is involved in the process. They are the people whom actually set up the time and location. So if you choose to take the certification, you are going to have to get in touch with them as well.

I finished both but don’t know how to get the badge. I asked CompTIA and they referred me to Acclaim.com.

How do I get this badge? Does Coursera send my info to Acclaim? Do I have to request it?

A little help, please?

I had both badges in my dashboard but not the dual badge.

They resolved this issue in under 24hrs and granted me the dual badge.

Hello,

May I know, after completing the Google IT support course, will it be enough for the CompTIA A+ exam?

No. Unless you’re a PC enthusiast and just love computers you might pass the CompTIA exams. It has changed over the past 20 years for me. I would study basic cloud computing, cell phone/tablet technology, common firewall ports,  6 steps of troubleshooting, etc. Hardware isn’t covered in Google IT support.

It would be nice if Coursera had dedicated courses just for Comptia.
