In the hours or days preceding a thunderstorm the air is loaded with excess positive ions and that affects either, the animals and the insects. These, are restless and the seconds which become a real pest becoming more aggressive.
Today no one doubts - based on the studies carried out - that an excess of positive ions affects the body chemistry of living organisms (plants, animals and people). However, once the storm is over, the air is fresh, clean, invigorating and contains an extra charge of negative ions that produces tranquility, relief of tensions and increase of energy in living beings.
An Example of the above written referred to the sensibility, is when certain persons tell: “… my bones hurt so much! Then, it will rain soon…”

Dr. Felix Gad Sulman, head of the Department of Applied Pharmacology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and his team have accumulated since 1957 an enormous casuistry that shows that the balance of ions is critical for the emotional and physical well-being of people. Dr. Sulman explains: "Although the excess of positive ions in the air affects all people there is a quarter of humanity that is extraordinarily sensitive to its influence; affecting mainly the respiratory, nervous and hormonal systems ".

The Dr. Albert Krueger, pathologist and bacteriologist at the University of California, Berkeley, investigated how the influence of positive ions affected the chemistry of all living organisms with plants, rats, insects, rabbits and guinea pigs. In 1960, he published a revolutionary study in the Journal of General Physiology in which he showed that the excess of positive ions caused an increase in production of serotonin in mammals which produced them a hyperactivity, that later led them to states of exhaustion, anxiety and depression.

This hormone is normally secreted by the body in situations of stress or psychic alterations and is known as "the humor hormone".
Diseases such as depression, headaches, insomnia, stress, etc., are treated with reserpine tranquilizers that help lower the level of serotonin in the blood. Well, Dr. Krueger's study ended up showing that the negative ions -product of Nature- had the same reassuring and serotonin-reducing effects but without the harmful consequences of chemical tranquilizers. In fact, it has been demonstrated experimentally that any person who stays in an atmosphere with a negative ion charge manages to reduce the serotonin level in blood by 25% in just a couple of days.

Ionization also cleans the air of bacteria and impurities such as tobacco smoke, pollen, dust and other particles that irritate the respiratory tract; thus, it is an adequate therapy that helps to fight respiratory diseases of all kinds but also problems such as depression, insomnia, headaches, etc. However, we can also implement other measures of protection such as less use of heating and air conditioning, disconnect electrical appliances, when they are not used and also something that is available to everyone: to receive a discharge of negative ions that help us replenish energy after a difficult day could be the best: to take a shower.
In short, whenever it is within our reach, we must approach a place in Nature where plants, water, sea breezes or the sun allow us to get rid of positive ions and recharge ourselves of the negatives that are tremendously beneficial for health.
The absorption is done by breathing and through the skin.

How the Positive Ions are produced?

The natural radioactivity:
Radioactive substances are found in the earth's crust that give off particles that, in addition to having a positive charge, generate ions as they pass through the atmosphere.

The storms:
In the hours and days before a storm is triggered there is a high positive charge in the atmosphere.

Phase of the full moon:
When the Moon in its translation movement approaches the Earth, it produces that the ionosphere (upper layer of the atmosphere)is affected with a higher concentration of ions produced by cosmic radiation (positives).

The winds :
Certain winds from dry and warm areas (normally, mountains or deserts), transport numerous positive ions that aren't fall down to the ground (decant not on the surface) by the absence of moisture in the air (negative ions), quickly.

From industrial development:
. The atmospheric pollution.
. The operation of the air conditioning.
. The use of synthetic fiber fabrics.
. Proximity to television screens.
. The proximity of energized devices.

Natural factors:

The chlorophyll function, developed by plants during the day gives off numerous electrons that soon adhere to the oxygen atoms forming negative ions.
The formation of tiny drops of water, releases numerous electrons. This phenomenon is known by the Lenard Effect and occurs when the water is subjected to a strong agitation: waterfalls, waves of the sea, intense rain.
It should be added that there are other methods to achieve this “production” of negative ions from water (distilled) in a liquid state, namely:

  • Application of temperature to water
  • Electric potential releases
  • Pressure in the Water Flow.
