I'm curious to know if there are students taking this course who are above 50 years old ? Is the digital tech community ready to accept and work with mid-lifers willing and able to re-skill themselves ? With wealth from the repository of their experience, what do you think we can draw from them ? thank you.
I have worked in the IT industry for at least seven years, four of them as an IT Manager and the other three as a Senior technical manager for an ISP start-up.
When I started "IBM - What is Data Science?", I had no experience what so ever with Data Science.
Now I can easily Define it and understand how it fits in with helping various companies to make better business-related decisions that can give the company a very nice boost.

My understanding of Data Science is the process of collecting, analyzing big or small data and using the insights to tell a story that will help an organization create valuable business strategies and decisions.

I believe this course would be a good start point for those who are interested in starting a career in Data Science or individuals who are decision makers in any organization.

I have went on to study most of the other IBM Data Science track courses now on IBM Machine Learning with Python. The advice and information I gained from the Data Science Introduction course boosted my confidence to continue with the IBM Data Science Professional Certification track.
"What is data science" is a great course 2 offered by IBM in the IBM data science professional certificate specialization . The course taught me the genese of data science and it's application to our nowadays life. There are key reading materials available there for you to build a foundation on what are the paths for data scientist? what makes you a data scientist and why it is was predestined to be the sexiest job of the 21 century? and many more topics. I liked the reading materials and the exercise on how to classify images which gives you an overview of data science application. It is inspiring and really clears you ideas on the topic of Data science. Anyone aspiring to become a data scientist is advised to enroll for this course and be patient to look through the reading material. I have applied some insights of course 2 in course 9 for the final project. Just to tell you how important it is to take this specialization course on step at the time. 🙂
This course explains the definition of data science. It allows beginners to quickly understand what data science is and then like data science. Data is no longer just a number. Although many people don't like mathematics, this course allows learners to understand what they are going to learn and what they are going to do. Mathematics is no longer a terrible science. IBM offers very advanced data science tools that most universities cannot provide such an excellent learning environment.

Data science is a dream come true ... the concept as such is young but from the beginning of the computation the data science was there, waiting for the right moment.

Finally there is a large amount of data repositories stored digitally on almost any subject (not all are public), we also have a great computing capacity in personal computers and servers all with the ability to exchange information through a network ... and a series of mathematical models designed and refined for many decades to help maximize the good and minimize the not so good and take a better decision.

The IBM course gives us an approach to do this. Open our eyes to see the information likes a good field to work up our questions to receives the answers after grow up the information.
