I am attending classes in data science; but I am confused about the classes I take. Most of my classes gear towards business. Our projects are heavy on the business side. So far, I have not had any class using different type of data. I wonder if data science is only for business?

I expect this reflects the specific courses/specialization your are attending. I have seen courses/specializations (not restricted to Coursera) which deal more with the technical aspects of data science rather than the specific application or implementation of the principles of data science.
That having been said, I think there is a current focus on the application of data science to business, as that is a (somewhat) newer area of (significant) interest. It is also likely that the data encountered in a business context is easier to “digest” than the data which is prevalent in some other disciplines.
I would also say that the principles of data science are very likely applicable in whatever domain is of interest, so, perhaps, you just need to approach it more as a learning opportunity than a “guidebook” for your particular domain.
