Hello everyone!  Nice to meet you!  My name is Tom James. I just completed my first Data Science program through Coursera and am looking for other aspiring scientists to connect with.  I earned a bachelors in biology during undergraduate.  Within the next 2 months I will also be completing a 2nd Data Science program (Johns Hopkins University), a Machine Learning program, a Deep Learning program, and others.  I’m hoping to find other colleagues or companies I can work on projects with soon that can help me develop my portfolio and experience further.  I currently am applying to Masters in Data Science programs at 4 graduate schools (George Washington Uni, Syracuse Uni, Southern Methodist Uni, UC Berkeley) and am considering a 5th if I meet the qualifications (Johns Hopkins Uni).  I have not taken Calculus or Linear Algebra at a university, but have courses in them through Udemy I plan on completing by the end of this Summer.  When I’m not studying Data Science/Machine Learning/AI courses online I enjoy fitness-boxing, camping, hiking, entomology, chess, and photography.

  • Where you're from/where you live

Hello I am from Honduras and I live in Honduras.

  • Why you’re interested in data science

Is a very interesting topic. I would like to do research in areas like poverty or Law. For example I would like to create my new research projects or analyze data from organizations like the World Bank in topics like Social Develppment. In Law I would like to analyze and create new data insights on the amount of cases tat arrives to the Court Hourse, and what are the most popular suits that are introduced etc, so we could somehow improve the access to justice.

  • What courses you’re taking or have taken

I have joined the Google Data Analysis Certificate program, also I joined the IBM Data Science certificate in Coursra. And I also Joined the Tableau specialization via Coursera with the UC Davis

  • Which topics/projects you’re especially interested in

As I mention before, I am very interested in learn and analyze topics related to Social development, legal issues, and I am thinking now also in applying DA concepts in topics like Criminalistics and Criminology.

  • What you can help someone with / what you’re looking for help with

I am a beginnir so any help is welcome.

  • How data science has influenced your life

After I joined the Google DA certificate program, Was like a new world opened in front of me. Data is everywhere. Since the time of ancient Egyptians. Also it has showed me that humans have done so much progress in development. For example many problems that affect society as a whole, have been reduced or eliminated because of the analysis of the data, which has helped organizations and goverments to focus resources in topics that according to data needs to be attended and it shows the fruits of the application of Data.

Hello. My name is Niladri Deb and I am from Mumbai, India. I had graduated from high school in 2020 and was supposed to attend university, but due to the COVID pandemic and Visa issues, I have to stay back till August 2021. I had completed the latest version of the IBM Data Science Professional Certificate, which has 10 courses. I am really interested in Data Science because I find the idea of Data Science very interesting. I have studied Natural Sciences at school, but the ability to use the same procedure for Data and then manipulate it to get a result is amazing! I do enjoy Math a lot and using so much Mathematics also makes Data Science fun! I haven’t studied Computer Science yet but I understand a fair amount of it because my father, a Computer Science teacher at the high school I graduated from, taught me a little bit. Data Science has given me a fresh perspective on Science and Maths. Data Science has helped me explore a part of Science that is so fascinating and very simple and rewarding if understood correctly. As I am reading everyone’s messages on how they have been involved in engineering, machine learning, I am new to this field and I would love to receive any tips, advice, and guidance regarding pursuing a career in Data Science. Till High School, I wanted to be an Astrophysicist, but now Data Science is looking really interesting and fun for me too! And I believe a career in either one of these fields would be very rewarding.

Hello Everyone,

I got hooked on to Data Science by “chance” and then took some courses on Coursera. Must say the quality of courses here is top-notch. I have taken ML and DL Specialization a couple of years back and currently doing the DS specialization.

The reason I joined this community is to understand what others are doing and seek & offer help.

I have acquired the outstanding IBM Data Science certificate and currently pursuing the Advanced Data Science certificate from IBM.

I don’t have a particular topic that I am interested in, however, my interest is to work with data in order to help others, whether it is a new business analysis, insights or recommendations.

I have worked on couple of projects and posted the reports on my LinkedIn page, please feel free to have a look and comment; https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/movie-rating-analysis-viewers-recommendation-model-cesar/ and https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/analysis-transportation-infrastructure-extension-hanna-pmp-pmi-acp/

I’m Simon Crase. I live in Hope, at the Top of the South Island of Aotearoa, New Zealand. I’m a semi-retired software engineer (medical devices).

I’ve become interested in machine learning for a number of reasons: I did some work on Good Old Fashioned AI back in the late 1980s, and I’m keen to see where modern AI is going; I studied statistics as part of my maths degree back in the 1960s, and was unhappy about the linkage to the physical world, which is being addressed by Bayesian probability.

I have just started Daphne Koller’s courses on Probabilistic Graphical Models. I did Andrew’s Ng’s excellent introduction a few years back, and am also doing the convolutional neural networks course. I have complected several courses at SFI’s Complexity Explorer, most recently Origins of Life. The latter sparked my interest in Karl Friston’s Free Energy Principle.

I’m currently working on the Human Protein Atlas - Single Cell Classification competition at kaggle, as well as trying to understand the Free Energy Principle.

Hi!! I am Juan from Spain. I have a degree in Economics and Accounting, as well as techinical certificates in Programming. I dye for learning as much as possible for cutting edge IT knowledge, as well as embed them into my previous skills witnessing how things seem to be easier and much more extensive and appliable indeed. Pitfully I am unemployed nowadays and my goal is to become freelance to help companies to become more productive, reach a larger profit, or reduce costs. Tecnically, I am devoted to Business Inteligence and all Data Science can lead to the topic. Statistics and ML have a great impact about all to be learnt in a Data Science framework, having some experience on these. Maybe some of you are aware of current web sites where freelance or home work are needed according to Data Science knowledge. Thanks in advance.

Wish keeping in touch, Juan.
