Why am I referred to as a "newcomer"?

@Denise, yes, I can see it. It now says "4 replies". lol!
I was confused at first on what that meant. Now, I think I know it. It is the number of times you've replied to a comment. Please correct me if I am wrong.
@Terry Thank you Terry for your attempt to answer my question. You may be correct. It certainly is a number varying upwards, which is a good sign. 🙂 Now mine says 5 replies. I wonder if it is within a thread? I definitely replied more than 5 times. Or could it be the number of times you received replies? I think I received more than 5 replies as well. In any case, hopefully, we will find out shortly. :)

I think it should be the number of times you receive repiles to a particular thread. and so if you generate a new thread it bbegins to count from 1 again.

Why am I referred to as a "newcomer"? I see participants for others and the newcomer against my name. and when do I become a "Participant'? Do you see it?@Denise ,@Terry ,@Claire ,everyone?

@Tobie I would say patience will be the key as everyone here are still trying to explore this new community page. It's more exciting when one gets from one point to another by experiencing the things. That way the excitement remains and you want to unlock more opportunities and reputation for yourself. I guess some questions don't have an answer and this is one of those questions which can only be answered by Community team at Coursera and at this moment they too are allowing everyone to know it by themself. But, yes, she i first started posting, I too was referred as 'Newcomer'. Gradually the ranks will get high.

Hi @Tobie , yes following from @Mohammad Sameer Hasan 's post, after certain number of replies and activity your title changes. We do not know all the details about receiving these titles and badges because Claire wishes us to contribute naturally to prevent any unhealthy competition. I hope it makes sense. :)

Yes, the number of replies is the number of replies you receive in general, not just in a thread but in the open community. We were not sure because when we were beta testing, we had many replies in the beta testing section (which is not open to others at the moment) but those replies are not included in the counting apparently, which was very cleverly figured out by @Maryam , who replied in another thread in the beta testing section. Thank you for trying to help us to answer that query as well.

@Mohammad Sameer Hasan Thanks a lot for your prompt response. It is really exciting trying to understand the rudiments of this platform, discovering and learning along side everyone here. I think i am relieved to know that you were once a newcomer like me...I like to think it was because i hadn't posted any comment at the time. I no longer see the newcomer but i do see a badge!
