Time zone bug?

Whenever I am trying to access coursera (since afternoon) I am facing a screen that prompts me to change my Coursera time zone setting.
The reason specified is that "your computer's timezone does not seem to match your Coursera account's time zone setting".

I checked it is the same across all devices I am using to access Coursera. Still, I tried to reset by selecting some other timezone followed by my timezone but then its save option doesn't work.

Anyone else facing this issue? Anyway to fix it Or is it a bug?

Our team has just launched an improvement to our platform which means dates and times will always be shown in the learner's local timezone. Before some dates were shown in Pacific Time and others were in the local time.

If a learner has a different timezone set for their device than for their Coursera account, they'll get the message you're seeing, @Namrata Tejwani

Check which timezone is set in your account here https://www.coursera.org/account-settings

If it's the same as the timezone set on your device then this is a bug, so please report it via the Help Center.

If not, then go ahead and change your account settings to match and you should stop seeing the message.

I had the same message yesterday and saw that the time zone they had me listed for was Pacific. I changed it and all is well.

Judith, India has only one timezone, in available options only Dilli is there. So I have reset it to Dilli again, but save option is not responsive.
I will recheck again today and notify chc if issue persist. Thanks, @Claire and @Judith

This brings me to another question.
1. Since many learners travel across the globe, some frequently, they do not/ will not change time zones of all devices, they will not see this message while accessing their Coursera account? As now there is no mismatch but actually, the location being different means different time zone at the time of access? Or Is this auto detect change?
2. Also often mobiles are set at auto select time zone, in that case, the device will choose different time zone than (manually selected but not changed now) time zone for Coursera. Will this message again pop up?

Hello , I get the same error message everytime, Please make it easier to select the correct time zone by adding the time zones i.e (central Time Zone , Pacific time zone, ...) rather than scrolling through all the cities and if your city is not listed then you have to figure out which city has the same time zone.

Thank you,

I agree with @Ehsan. Please make this feature optional, add an ignore button, or change the timezone selection tool to something more universal. (UTC-07:00) Mountain Time, (UTC-06:00) Central America, etc.

You already have automatic timezone detection which is sending us this error. A good option for us would be a link to change the timezone to what it thinks it should be. "Your computer's timezone of [timezone 1] does not seem to match your Coursera account's timezone setting of [timezone 2].
Click the link below to update your Coursera timezone setting."

Thank you,

@Lyle in my case time zone 1 and time zone 2 are same. Re selection also mean status quo. I don't see why it is counting same time zone as different. I see at times message appears at other times it doesn't. But so far it is not a concern for me as I am currently not taking any course.

Thank you all for sharing your feedback – we've shared this conversation with our engineers and they are actively looking into improving the time zone feature.

My computer time zone is always set to UTC, and I switch the displayed time zone(s) in the window manager (KDE). Please make an option to tell Coursera to stop bugging me and trust the time zone I put in my profile.

My location is Arizona, and I cannot find Arizona in the options. So I choose LA since we are the same time zone. but it still show "Your computer's timezone does not seem to match your Coursera account's timezone setting of America/Los_Angeles." How should I do?

@Namrata Tejwani I believe you are selecting wrong time zone, hence you are greeted with annoying pop-up. Indian users need to select "Kolkata" as city in Course-era time zone.

Dili is not in India, Dili is capital of Timor-leste, it is creating confusion because of Delhi - Dili mixup, selecting Kolkata fixes this annoying pop-up.

Thank you @adityakok , I selected Kolkata now and it got updated. Though I am still concerned as I never changed my time zone since the time I first set it. Earlier there was probably an option of Delhi, I think so, how else it automatically got shifted to Dilli or for that matter if I had earlier selected option of Kolkata how it got shifted to Dilli while they updated? Possibly they messed up with names or something. So many people got this issue, where their preselected time zone was working right earlier but now not?
I think everyone else who posted here should recheck if the title of their selected time zone actually represents their real-time zone.
A big thank you again.

The same problem with me, it seems to be a general problem so please take it quickly so that we can complete the study on the site, thank you.

I'm having the same problem -- Coursera put me in LA, and I got prompted to change my time zone. Didn't see any major Texas cities listed (I'm in Austin), so I selected Mexico City for my time zone. I actually had to Google to make sure it was in the same time zone -- is this Coursera's way of trying to get me to sign up for a geography class?

Anyway, it's still saying that my time zone is wrong and telling me to change it. Does anyone know any cities near me (but not in Texas -- at least, I didn't see Austin or Dallas or Houston listed -- and not Mexico City, apparently) that are in my time zone so I can make this message go away? Thanks.

This forum is what came up when I googled it...

Hi @r33. I love the thought that Coursera is prompting learners to sign up for a geography course! I appreciate your sense of humor amidst a frustrating experience. 🙂 Our engineers are working to resolve this. In the meantime, you can try to select "Chicago," under "America" as it's in the Central Time Zone (as is Austin).

I'm having the same issue.

Time zone on computer is set to Montreal, and in Coursera as well. Possible bug?

Same here... Both Coursera and laptop are set to Moscow...

Same problem here.

Computer (Windows 10) timezone:
(UTC +01:00) Amsterdam, Berlin, Bern, Rome, Stockholm, Vienna
Adjust for daylight saving time automatically: ON

Coursera time zone setting:
Europe > Amsterdam

Should match. But I get the warning every time.

Hi @Mustangmissy. Try selecting "Chicago" under "America."

Hi!

I changed it to Chicago as suggested (I'm in Austin, Texas), and it resolved the problem.

Also just use the platform less...
Userlevel 7
@Mei Mei, if you live in Arizona, I recommend selecting "Phoenix" under "America."

Boston area, I selected New York still getting the warning message.
Any suggestion?
