Hello, I’m new to Coursera and came here because of my interest in computer technology. What moderate amount I know of Operating Systems, Software and Hardware, I’ve taught myself through my own troubleshooting experiences, and online research. I see that Coursera has 3 computer courses, Computer Science, Data Science and Information Technology. While my main interest is in gaining certification in A+ and its related fields, I won’t limits myself to just that, and would like to learn as much as I can. My question is, for a self-taught beginner, what course should I start on?

Also, I’d like to know how certification from completing a course works? Can I use them in other places, such as a resume and so forth? And is it something that would be recognised my other schools?

Hello @Roderick! I’m not an expert on Computer Science, so I won’t be able to tell you which course will be best for your current learning path. However, I can provide some information about Coursera Certificates.

Coursera Certificates do not provide professional or academic credits. If you need to know whether a Coursera Certificate will count toward accreditation for a specific organization or program, please ask a representative of that organization or program. This is also mentioned in our Terms of Use. Here's a link for your reference: https://www.coursera.org/about/terms. Happy learning!

I made a post introducing my self and lost it try to navigate this page. Hi my name is Lakisha Helm, but you can call me Zenobia or Zen. I'm currently unemployed but have work thru many settings in healthcare as an LPN. I never expected to be unemployed. But my Mental Health deteriorated, then I got infected with COVID. Lack of access to insurance and money has me here at this point.

But I enjoy the Coursera courses. I currently studying COVID courses, not only to get an understanding about how this illness affected me, but all to teach those around me what they may want to know about how this illness affects them. Navigating COVID when you don't know what's going on is scary. So if I can help with some of that anxiety and help a person or people gain awareness I'm glad.

Since I'm new to the Coursera Community navigating the site and registering has been a challenge. But with Coursera I would like to learn new topic and further my career as a nurse. This way I can start working on my RN and make myself more marketable in the Healthcare Community.

Thanks for having me and I look forward to talking to other while I'm learning.
