Mobile App Sound keeps stopping

Badge +2

Hi,

I'm using the Android version of the Coursera Mobile App on an S10 Android 11. I start the video, I lock my phone, and a few moments later the sound will stop.

I unlock my phone and I have to press play again on the video.

Spotify and other apps continue to play when my phone is locked how to I setup Coursera to do the same.

Thank you for your time

Hello @Kakashii007, I’m sorry about the frustration you’ve faced with this.

Unfortunately, this feature currently isn’t available in Coursera. Some apps will allow you to run them in the background, like Spotify, but others won’t, like Youtube (excluding Youtube Red) and Coursera.

Feel free to suggest this in the Ideas & Suggestions for Coursera forum

Hi, if I’m not wrong, you should go your phone settings and disallow the Screen Block -- or set it to (say) 30 minutes.

You should do it each time you do a course streaming, then set it back to your safety choice.

Hope it helps

Thanks for the suggestion.

Its not just the screen lock anymore.

If I am watching a lesson and I switch to another app on my phone the lesson stops.

Example: I start a lesson on Coursera App then switch to Chrome to look up a word definition the lesson will stop playing.

Basically you always have to be watching the lesson. Disappointed.

I think this is a software issue. Needs an update.

Hi again. Feel free to report your issue to the Help center. Log in so you can access the chat/email option.

However, smartphones rarely allow multitasking.

On my Android system, try watching a Youtube video -- it is put in stand-by as I want to open another app.

It’s just a technology limit, rather than a bug.

Yes, you have to follow the lesson aha!

EDIT -- You may try using the Web page of Coursera -- I just doubt whether the app could start a conflict and disallow you going on the web version. Good luck!

Why can I do it with Spotify?

What do you mean "Yes, you have to follow the lesson"?

If I'm blind, am I not following the lesson bcs I can't see it? Aha !
