I’m trying to get enrolled from India. On payment screen, there are only two payment methodes available Card(Mastercard/VisaCard) and UPI/PayTM. I’ve tried all my cards but it show error all time “Card does not support recurring payments”.

Hi everyone, I just want to clarify that this is not a technical issue on Coursera’s behalf; it is something that is coming from the Indian Government.

You can read more about this here.

This problem is expected to continue throughout September 30th, and it should be automatically resolved once this deadline is met.

Thank @Archisha Bhar, I’ve gone through all the articles and threads but still, the problem remains the same for me as well as others who are in India. I’ve shared the same concern with the Help Center as well. Looking forward to resolution.

Facing the same issue. Did you ever get it resolved ?

I have tried UPI payment and multiple credit cards (Visa as well as MasterCard) but I keep on getting the same error, even after the suggested solution of clearing cache & cookies and also on multiple browsers.

@jotmatta, you can try writing to the Help Center as I explained in my first reply to this thread.

@Archisha Bhar I shared the concern with Help Center. I got the reply from the team: “At this moment, these types of payments are not accepted due to policies that are not our own. Once this changes you will be able to pay for this Course. “
For some reason, enrollment is not open for us(India) also it is not sure when it will be working for us. Please share the resolution here once working for India so that we all can get notified.
Thanks

@Raghwendra, sorry to hear that. I am also from India, and it really is sad to hear that we are facing this issue.

I am not paying for any course at the moment, so I cannot tell you whether and when there will be a solution. You can try the auditing the courses that have the option, and pay for the certificate later when the issue gets resolved.

You can keep checking other posts in the Community which deal with the same issue, and you may find a solution in the near future. I think this issue is temporary.

Hope they get this solved!

@Archisha Bhar The courses which I’m looking for are not open. I can access it only after these subscription steps. I think Coursera should open the content at least to gain the knowledge and pay later for the certificate also share this request with the Help Center. For now we can wit only or forget because of other priorities.

Hi @Raghwendra ,

Even I’m facing the same issue. Please let me know if you find any solution for the same. It’s really frustrating to not be able to start the course because of payment issue which is not in our hands.T

So frustrating! I’ve tried every payment option available to me. Please rectify this as soon as you can :/

We are learners, @mukz_mckz. We cannot rectify it. We have to wait for the technical team of Coursera to fix it.

i am also facing same error while payment. getting “Recurring is not supported on this card” error while  payment via Credit Card

I face the same problem. I used an SBI bank credit card. It says the same thing.

@Raghwendra & everyone else facing the issue - try UPI ID with BHIM app (the one ending with ‘@upi’). It worked for me after everything else failing.

Thanks for providing the solution, @Jose A. This was a serious concern for learners from India, me being one of them as well. Relieved to hear that it will be automatically resolved.

Hi Jose, thanks for clarifying this.

However, the issue on Coursera’s side is that the mentioned payment methods on the payment page do not work. The one method that works is not mentioned clearly.

The problem is that people keep trying different cards/methods but don’t succeed. If it was clearly and correctly mentioned that only this thing works or even that currently no payment method works for India, it would have been much better.

Another easily implementable solutions is to allow one time payments for Indian users for now. For an organization of Coursera’s size, not allowing access to all Indian potential customers for 6 months would be a substantial business loss as well.

I have the same issue unable to pay and can’t open the course without payment :/

I agree with this, I’m facing same issue with payment. Not able to do even any UPI payment.

Waiting for 6 more month to get this issue resolves from Indian Gov means no one from India will be able to do any training program from coursera. And as the article that jose shared mentioned that the timeline is already extended, so there are still chances that it can be extended beyond Sept 2021, So technically we are not sure when this can get resolve.

And I think currently problem is not that everyone is not able to do recurring payment. It’s about not able to use coursera service because of it. As punar mention we should work on solution by providing some kind of option so everyone can start using coursera service. Maybe by starting one time payment. ( can be for 6 month or 1 year payment also for selected course ).

ps. I’m sorry if I’ve mis-understood something in this thread and come to this conclusion.

Oh ok, I just saw last few messages about BHIM UPI ID is working. So maybe it’s just for me. It failed for me with UPI and Credit Card both.. I’ll retry in sometime with that.

Thank you. 🙂

Did you try the one created actually on the BHIM app - ending with ‘@upi’? That should work. The ones created on Gpay or paytm or banks are not working.
