Alarming rise in plagiarism

More and more students are reporting plagiarism in the forums. It is such reprehensible behaviour, to just copy other people’s work. Coursera, still after years of asking, has no assignment plagiarism checker. Is anything being done?

Hi Lochcarron,

What would be an example of an assignment plagiarism checker? Apart from realising a Learner has submitted an obvious copy & paste text, and reporting it. Is there tech / software that can alert a platform of copies of assignments submissions?

I am following the awsome course: Information Theory by The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Prof. Raymond W. Yeung.

Every week I submit a homework and I work a lot for that.

I also take a lot of time for reviewing between 30 and 70 peers, maybe even more.

The huge majority of the submitted homeworks are plagia, typically copies from the instructor’s solution. Another large number of homework are not related to the course or the current week.

I am also discouraged knowing that my own homerworks most probably reviewed by people who do not really study the course.

I don’t know how this could be solved.

Shouldn’t that be improved given the poor image this gives of Coursera, which is not deserved.

That's the disadvantage of online course without instructor.

Some of the online course they are instructor led, where you're work are checked by the instructor.
